What is a laptop docking station?

A laptop docking station is a device that your laptop plugs in to. It usually sits onto the docking station and “docks” into it. The docking station is usually connected to peripherals. For example if you have a docking station on your desk at work it can be connected to the network, have a power cord plugged into it, an LCD, keyboard & mouse. Plop your laptop into it and you have your workstation running just like a desktop computer.

The days most laptops support hot docking. That is plopping your laptop into a docking station while it is running. And when you are off to that meeting or done for the day, you can just pick it up and go.

Not all laptops support docking stations but most business models do.

Happy docking!
